Frequently asked questions from parents

What can I expect when we choose to work together?

The assessment process is our starting point. I will conduct an interview with you to better understand your concern. I will ask questions about your child’s behavior of interest, as well as ask many questions about the family’s interactions with the child. It may be helpful to take notes prior to our meeting so that the details of incidents and interactions are not forgotten. After our parent interview, I will want to observe your child engaging in the target behavior. This can be done through Zoom. The assessment process may take 2-4 hours in total.

After the assessment, I will create a customized treatment plan. We will meet and discuss the plan, and make modifications until we are both satisfied and in agreement.

I will then begin to train you to implement the plan. This generally will consist of instruction, modeling when possible, rehearsal, and then observation with feedback.

How many sessions will it take until the target issue is resolved?

There is no way to predict how long it will take for new behaviors to replace problem behavior. The length of the process will have a lot to do with how consistently you implement the suggested interventions and how well we communicate with each other.

How often do we meet?

We will most likely meet 1-2 sessions/week. Each session is generally 1-1.5 hours.

Do you only work with families affected by autism?

No! Although the majority of my professional career has been in the field of autism, the science of behavior applies to everyone. My experience also includes families affected by ADHD, ODD, as well as families in which there are no specific diagnoses.

Will you come to my home?

Sessions will take place via telehealth. However, in certain circumstances, I may ask to visit the home if I feel it will provide me with necessary information to aid in the analysis of a behavior or implementation of an intervention. *Note: All school consultations take place in the school environment.

Do you take insurance?

No, my services are currently private pay.

Do you charge for treatment planning?

I only charge for face-to-face sessions. There is no charge for time spent on treatment planning, follow-up emails, and brief phone calls.

Where are you located?

I live in Atlanta, GA.

What happens if we bump into each other in the real world?

I will let you take the lead. If you want to say hi or introduce me, that’s fine. If you want to pretend we don’t know each other, that’s understandable and completely okay!
